Bloom - Coffee Companion
Last Updated: May 12, 2026

Overview

Bloom is built with privacy at its core. Your coffee and caffeine data is stored locally by default, and CloudKit sync is handled by Apple when iCloud is available unless disabled in iOS Settings. Bloom does not operate an analytics backend, sell personal information, or use data for advertising.

Data Storage

All data you enter into Bloom, including your coffees, recipes, brew logs, equipment, caffeine entries, custom drinks, and tasting notes, is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.

When iCloud is available, your data syncs automatically across your devices via Apple's CloudKit infrastructure unless disabled in iOS Settings. This data is stored in your private iCloud database. Apple manages this infrastructure and the developer has no access to it.

Your preferences (theme, color palette, unit system, daily brew goal) are stored locally using UserDefaults and shared only between the Bloom app and its widgets on your device via an App Group container.

Data Collection

Bloom does not collect your coffee journal, caffeine logs, recipes, equipment, tasting notes, photos, location, or advertising identifiers.

Bloom supports optional Sign in with Apple for subscription identity. When you sign in, Apple provides a stable user identifier and may provide your name and email on the first sign-in. Bloom stores the Apple user identifier and display name locally in Keychain so it can recognize your account; the identifier is also shared with RevenueCat to sync purchases. Bloom does not use your Apple sign-in information for advertising or tracking.

For purchases and subscription management, Bloom uses RevenueCat. RevenueCat may process purchase history, a customer identifier, device identifier, and product interaction data to verify entitlements, restore purchases, and keep subscriptions working. This data is used for app functionality and is not used for tracking or advertising.

Specifically, Bloom does not collect:

  • No location data
  • No usage analytics or behavioral tracking
  • No crash reports sent externally
  • No cookies or web tracking

Bloom does not integrate with analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Camera & Photo Library

Bloom requests access to your camera and photo library solely to scan coffee bag labels using on-device AI (Apple Vision OCR and Foundation Models). All image processing happens entirely on your device. No images are uploaded, stored on servers, or shared with anyone.

You can deny camera or photo library access and still use all other features of the app.

Third-Party Services

The following third-party services are used:

  • RevenueCat: Used for subscription management, purchase validation, entitlement sync, and restore purchases. RevenueCat may process purchase history, a customer identifier, device identifier, and product interaction data. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple CloudKit / iCloud: When iCloud is available, your data syncs via Apple's infrastructure unless disabled in iOS Settings. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

The third-party libraries used in Bloom are limited to UI animation packages (Lottie, Pow, ConfettiSwiftUI, SwiftUI-Shimmer, PopupView). None of these libraries collect or transmit user data.

Widgets & Live Activities

Bloom's Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen widgets, and Live Activities access your brew data, caffeine summary, and preferences through a shared on-device App Group container. This data never leaves your device except through CloudKit sync handled by Apple when iCloud is available unless disabled in iOS Settings.

Children's Privacy

Bloom is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information. The app is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content.

Data Sharing

Bloom does not share, sell, rent, or trade your coffee or caffeine data with third parties. Purchase-related data is processed by RevenueCat only to provide app functionality such as subscription verification and restore purchases.

Data Deletion

Since your coffee and caffeine data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can delete individual coffees, recipes, brew logs, caffeine entries, custom drinks, and equipment from within the app. Uninstalling Bloom removes app data from your device, subject to any iCloud backups or sync copies managed by Apple.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted here with an updated date. Since Bloom does not maintain a contact database, we cannot notify you directly. Please review this page periodically.
