Starting an export changes the job at your desk. For a while, the useful thing is to let the computer run. You still want to see whether progress is moving, but a brush against the keyboard or a click in the wrong place adds nothing to the process.
Warden combines an input lock with optional sleep prevention on macOS. During a render, export, or local build, you can block physical interaction and keep the Mac awake for the lock's duration. That is useful when you want the job to remain observable while you do something else nearby.
There are two separate choices here. Input blocking prevents the desk's keyboard and pointer devices from interfering with applications. The awake option addresses sleep during the session. If you need both, enable both deliberately rather than assuming that locking input automatically sets every power preference for the job.
Consider exporting a video after a final round of edits. Before starting, check the export settings and destination. Begin the export and make sure it has actually started. Then activate Warden with sleep prevention enabled. The progress window becomes something you can check occasionally without leaving the editing application's controls available to stray input.
That sequence is useful because it separates setup from waiting. Discovering a wrong destination or an unexpected prompt before you step away is much easier than discovering it after the time you expected the export to take. Warden handles the input state; the application still needs a sensible job to run.
The product's awake controls include an optional closed-lid mode that is prepared before a session. If that is part of your setup, check the setting before starting the real workload. For a workflow where the point is watching progress, leaving the relevant display visible will usually be the more useful arrangement.
Warden doesn't make a render faster, repair a failed export, or supply missing disk space. An error dialog is still an error dialog. Keeping the work visible helps you notice it, then unlock and respond. The advantage is being able to check on a job without repeatedly reentering an interactive editing session.
Long builds have a similar rhythm. Once a compiler or test suite is running, the next useful action may be reading its result. You can spend the interval reviewing notes or planning the next change, then return to the Mac when there is something concrete to inspect. Input locking across the keyboard, mouse, and trackpad supports that deliberate pause.
When the job finishes, unlock and check the output itself. For a video, open the exported file and inspect the result; for a build, read its completion status and relevant checks. A progress indicator reaching the end tells you the wait is over. It is still worth confirming that the work produced what you needed.
Warden is a good fit when the waiting period is long enough to leave the controls alone but short enough that you want to keep watching. Try it first with a familiar export and your usual desk setup.
